Time to place the Herring Curtains

Anticipating Silver - Preparing Rotary Club of Sechelt (Ch'atlich) - Volunteer Organization

Tem lhawt in Squamish means time of the herring. This is our word for March. It's an important time of the year, it's the arrival of fresh herring roe to the shorelines of west-coast BC. It marks the coming spring. And when the herring spawn, their roe feeds the entire food chain (including us big land animals).   Read more

Cycle of Life

Herring are a forage fish that move in large schools along the northern shorelines of the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. They spawn in February and March in sheltered bays and inlets. Click here to learn more on how to help.
